Accessing reasonably priced, high-quality oral healthcare might seem impossible, especially when you look at your smile and begin to see all the noticeable problems that need to be fixed. But what if you could enroll in a program that uses your family’s adjusted net income to make dental care not only possible but affordable? Read on to find out if you qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP) and how it can help you save.

CDCP: Do You Qualify?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a program offered through the federal government that allows Canadian residents to receive oral healthcare services when in need.

Its strict guidelines and criteria for enrollment mean not everyone is eligible; however, if you want to know whether you might qualify, you can ask a member of your dental team for the requirements. Not only must you be a resident of Canada, but you must also:

  • Not have an adjusted family net income of more than $89,999
  • Not have a current dental insurance plan or have access to one
  • Have filed your taxes for the previous year

How Much Coverage Is Available?

The amount of coverage you can expect to receive is based on your adjusted net income. This means that if your income is less than $70,000, the CDCP will pay 100% of all eligible oral healthcare services. If your income falls between $70,000 and $79,999, the CDCP will pay 60% while you will be responsible for 40%.

If your income is between $80,000 and $89,999, the CDCP will pay 40%, and you will be expected to cover the remaining 60%.

Some of the different services that may be covered include:

  • Preventive Care: Dental checkups and cleanings, X-rays, fluoride, dental sealants, etc.
  • Restorative care (basic): Dental fillings, gum disease treatment, root canals, etc.
  • Restorative care (major): Dental crowns, full and partial dentures, tooth extractions, etc.
  • Anesthesia and sedation, although it may require pre-authorization
  • Starting this year, orthodontic care is only available in situations of medical need and includes a maximum spending limit

Enrolling in the Canadian Dental Care Plan will give you greater peace of mind as you and your family prepare to embark on a positive oral healthcare journey. Not only will you reap the benefits of high-quality care, but you’ll also save money along the way.
